Once, I made a giant gingerbread house that looked like Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. There were all kinds of candies involved (vats of candy) and there were many singing Oompa Loompas. These edible munchkins were made of gumpaste. However the methods used here are quite similar and can be applied to just about any sculpting medium, especially modeling chocolate.
To make the munchkins, first I formed their torsos and legs. I used a ball tool to make cavities for the arms, heads, and feet.
I sculpted the heads and faces separately and skewered them on toothpicks that were then anchored in a piece of styrofoam.
That’s my trick to sculpting heads and faces without squishing them.
Once they were dry, I attached the heads to the bodies using some royal icing as “glue.”
Then I added icing eyebrows and icing hair.
Here are all the munchkins singing about how much they would love to have arms.
Here are their arms.
