The Trick to Sharp Corners
Once the crumb coat has set, add a thicker layer of buttercream, following the same steps that were used to apply the crumb coat. This time, add more than enough frosting all over the cake.
The trick here is to build up the finish – especially at the edges and corners – with extra buttercream. Really load it on there so that each corner juts up and out like the bow of a boat.
